Its a snow day here – well, really not really.. Just some flurries, but it was enough to have the grocery stores swamped with long lines yesterday with people trying to “prep” for the snow; meanwhile all I wanted to buy was cookie dough. But, one thing for certain is that, it was cold then & it’s cold now! Like 19 degrees Fahrenheit to be exact; winter has surely arrived – Perfect timing to talk about Skatsz New ’17 Collection!!!! *Insert a yelp here*
Skatsz satin lined beanies are designed to help keep moisture in your hair & avoid dryness, frizz, breakage and other damages to the hair that’s caused by the cotton in regular beanies. All while keeping you warm & toasty too, yeah, you’re welcome 😛
So, the new collection has three styles of beanies with two colors each (yeeeep)! I’ve inserted hyper links in the names of each style so you can click on it to see what it looks like on the website.
I hope you all had a restful weekend because I sure as hell did!
Spring has officially sprung here in the DMV.. I think anyway. Though its supposedly “spring” here in the DMV (those that don’t know that’s the tri-state area; DC Maryland Virginia) & I put spring in quotes because if you’re from here you know for a fact our spring is just ummmm how do I put this? Pre-spring hahah! Only because the weather is so unstable, we can still get snow till June sef ( I‘m not kidding I think it snowed like ending of May early June some 3/4 years ago). Yeah, that’s our life here, but at least there’s an extra hour of daylight now that we’ve sprung forward; adding an hour that shouldn’t have been taken away in the first place but I digress..
Anywho, I found some super cute natural hair styles that I will be trying this summer, so I thought I’d share.
Super cute Bantu Knots:
Ghana Braids aka Feed in braids/cornrows:
The link below show how both of the styles above were achieved. ↓↓↓↓
Hey Guys.. I know, I know, its been a looooooooooooooong while. I have no excuses, life’s just been super hectic (in a great way)! Trying to organize everything I have going on is um.. challenging! But I’m proving to myself everyday that it can be done, so here I am.
I’ve been attending quite a number of events – networking, conferences, expos, meetups
& the most recent event I attended was a natural hair event ‘Its A Curl Thing’ organized and held at McDaniel College; actual organizers were Kylah Chadwick and Khadijah Poston. It was a really great, very well put together event & it was executed accordingly. I am so proud to say I was apart of this awesome program and to think these young ladies are juniors in college & can still manage to pull something like this off is amazing! When I was in college I could barely remember what room # my classes were (judge me not), talk less of organizing an event of this magnitude.
I was there as a vendor and met such wonderful people, both the McDaniel students & non-students and even the staff. Seriously, everyone in attendance was so welcoming & passionate about natural hair.
I’ve been meaning to blog about this for a while but umm hmm procrastination is a mutha! But I have finally overcome.
Okay so my hair used to get mighty, I mean super uber duper dry to the point it had flakes & it was just.. bad. I would put only oil on my scalp but then I learned that oil only seals the moisture in your hair & since my hair was already uber dry when I applied it, that meant it was sealing..? You guessed it, dry ass hair! Desperate, I jumped on YouTube to hopefully find a solution & thank God I did. heres the vid I found verrrry helpful with creating the mixture to help me moisturize my hair.
I mix Coconut oil, Olive oil, Jamaican Castor oil, Tea Tree oil, Palmer’s Olive Leave-in Conditioner, Palmer’s Hair milk, and most importantly a lot of water in a spray bottle. (Dont pay attention to the meat in the background hahaha I mean I gotta eat).
Also don’t clown my spray bottle hahaha I know people actually go out & buy this one below but I didn’t feel the need to go spend some more money when I have empty bottles of body sprays laying around.
So yes, I used this empty one from Bath & Body Works (which smells so good btw) and still worked for the purpose of this
So I put water up to like a good 60% like this
Then I added the oils & conditioner in no particular order or measurement, I kinda just eyed everything. I was really heavy handed on the tea tree oil though since it has really the anti fungal components in fighting the flakes on my scalp I got due to dry hair. Now I’m not quite certain if I am allergic to coconut oil just yet, so I just added just a bit. And voi·la! Here is the mixture up close & personal!
Here’s another angle.
Its quite easy to make & let me tell ya it has done wonders for my hair! I try to spray my hair every other day or at the very least 2 day interval. My hair feels so much better & hydrated!
Tell me how you keep your hair moisturized & if maybe you’re gonna give this a try.
